BART GOES TO BAT

Inspired by a
veteran Hollywood actor named Bart who happens to be a 1,500-pound
grizzly bear, the recently expanded Vital Ground Foundation in
Montana aims to protect grizzly bear habitat through conservation
easements, land acquisition, and public education. “Our vision from
the beginning was to do something worthwhile for the environment
and for Bart’s brothers, sisters and cousins,” says founder and
president Doug Seus. He nurtured the orphaned Bart from cubhood and
landed him a starring role in The Bear. Bart also won a supporting
part in Legends of the Fall. In addition to habitat conservation
projects, Seus and his wife, Lynne, conduct educational seminars
featuring Bart and other trained animals. The foundation appointed
Dan Walker executive director in February and has expanded to
provide two new charitable funds and an eight-page biannual
newsletter. Contact the foundation at P.O. Box 2971, Missoula, MT
59806.
