Chalk another one up for the cattle industry and beef
consumerism (HCN, 8/20/07). Clear mesquite trees
to plant buffelgrass for cattle grazing, and clear more trees for
mesquite charcoal to cook the cattle. The inverted cycle of life.
I seem to have missed where the “good intentions” apply
in this story. Was it good intentions to clear land just to raise
an ecologically unwise food (and was it done not for profit, but
for the overall benefit of mankind and all of God’s creation)?
Beef. It’s not just what’s for dinner. It’s our culture.
Now just don’t take too big a bite, or you’ll choke on it.
