I am a young Polynesian adult and grew up with many of the same influences (both good and bad). I cried while reading this article. So many of my friends have made terrible choices, bringing pain and suffering to the families of the victims of their crimes, their own families, and themselves, all for the “brotherhood” provided by that lifestyle. However, there are many Polynesians who are able to overcome those influences and are successful and valuable members of society.

Unfortunately, many of us still experience the stigma of the stereotypes that are so successfully perpetuated by our brothers.
