For the past three years, up to 400 people have
gathered in Denver for Colorado Gov. Roy Romer’s Agricultural
Outlook Forum. This year, on Feb. 18, Romer wants the gathering to
focus on the ecology and economics of sustainable farming. Experts
such as Marty Strange, who founded Nebraska’s Center for Rural
Affairs, and Ralph Grossi, a third-generation dairy farmer who
heads the American Farmland Trust, are among the featured speakers.
During lunch, conference participants will gather at tables of 10
to discuss dryland farming techniques, canola as a new crop, the
dialogue between ranchers and environmentalists and future
prospects for Denver’s water supply, among other topics. The forum
costs $80, and groups of 10 or more receive a discount. Sponsors
are Gov. Romer, the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado
Agricultural Leadership Associates. For more information, call
303/239-4100.
