Two former high-ranking Forest Service officials
known for their blunt criticism of the agency headline the Montana
Wilderness Association’s 36th annual convention in Great Falls,
Dec. 2-3. Tom Kovalecky, retired supervisor of the Nez Perce
National Forest, and John Mumma, former regional forester for the
northern region of the Forest Service, will speak about changes
afoot in natural-resource management. Panelists of ranchers,
activists and state agency officials will also discuss building
bridges between the private and public sectors to protect open
spaces and wild places. A traditional string band will play for
dancing the first evening, while a silent auction and awards
banquet cap the event. For more information, contact the Montana
Wilderness Association, Box 635, Helena, MT 59624
