Michael Collier, a river-runner, geologist, pilot and photographer who sometimes masquerades as a physician, has been using his “bushy sort of airplane” to take river pictures from the air since 1975. Slides from Collier’s recent book Water, Earth and Sky: the Colorado River Basin, co-authored with Dave Wegner of the Glen Canyon Institute, will be presented as part of the Institute’s 5th annual fall conference, Oct. 11-12, at the University of Utah. The Institute wants to drain Lake Powell and restore the submerged Glen Canyon. Wegner hopes this year’s conference will spark conversation about the Colorado River Basin at large. “We’re bringing in diverse information sources like writers, artists and other environmental groups to expand upon the scientific information we’ve developed,” he says. For more information, contact the Institute at 520/556-9311 or e-mail info@glencanyon.org.
