The International Association of Wildland Fire holds
its second conference March 29-April 1 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The
conference, a follow-up to a get-together in 1995, will explore the
worldwide effects of fire and fire-management strategies on
endangered species and their habitats. “It’s an effort to get the
firefighter talking to the fire manager talking to the fire
researcher,” says organizer Maria Greenlee. Participants are
expected from the Rocky Mountain West, Australia, England and South
Africa, and submissions for presentations are still being accepted.
The conference is open to the public and will include a speech by
Jack Ward Thomas, former head of the U.S. Forest Service. For more
information, call Greenlee at 509/283-2397 or send e-mail to
greenlee@cet.com.
