Just want to say how much it means to me that HCN covered Plymell’s death (“Did James Plymell Need to Die?” March 2021). The story was barely covered at the time, and that never felt right. Your coverage got the real story, which is about the intersection of an imperfect human life with the efforts of our small cities to criminalize homelessness. I live in Plymell’s community and have been part of the efforts to push back on the downtown exclusion that the article describes.
It means so much to me that you got the real story and connected James’ loss with what determined it. It also gives us a starting place for our advocacy.
